Three-time African champions, the Super Eagles, on Wednesday arrived at their base in Fez ahead of the kick-off of the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, where Nigeria will be chasing a long-awaited fourth continental title.

Clad in green traditional kaftans with flowered embroidery and matching caps, the Eric Sekou Chelle-led squad departed Cairo aboard a chartered flight around midday and touched down in Fez later in the evening.

The late arrival forced the cancellation of the team’s scheduled first training session in Fez. The Eagles are, however, expected to resume preparations today in the historic city, one of Morocco’s imperial centres and a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Nigeria had spent five days in Cairo for the first phase of their build-up and suffered a 2–1 defeat to hosts Egypt on Tuesday in their only pre-AFCON friendly.

The Super Eagles are drawn in Group C alongside Tanzania, Tunisia and Uganda.

Nigeria will open their campaign against Tanzania’s Taifa Stars next Tuesday, before facing Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles on December 27 and Uganda’s Cranes on December 30.
