Super Eagles boss, Peseiro hails Nigerian clubs after CAF competitions

Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro has lavished praise on Nigerian clubs, Rivers United, Plateau United and Kwara United despite their disappointing showing in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.

Nigeria Professional Football League champions, Rivers United were pulverized 6-0 by holders, Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco in the second leg of their CAF Champions League, first-round tie in Casablanca on Sunday night.

The Port Harcourt club crashed out of the competition 7-2 on aggregate.

Plateau United put up a brave fight against four-time champions, Esperance of Tunisia who needed a late controversial penalty to beat them 1-0 in Rades on Saturday night.

The encounter ended 2-2 on aggregate but Esperance advanced to the group stage on away goal rule.

Both Rivers United and Plateau United have now been demoted to the CAF Confederation Cup.

Also, Kwara United crashed out of the CAF Confederation Cup after going down to a 2-0 defeat against defending champions, RS Berkane of Morocco.

The Harmony Boys lost on away goal rule with the tie ending 3-3 on aggregate.

Peseiro who watched the Rivers United and Plateau United’s games live showered encomium on the three clubs.

“Very proud to attend the CAF Champions League games (@RiversUnitedFC and @plateau_united) this weekend. @KwaraUnitedFC also played for the Confederations Cup,” Peseiro wrote on his Twitter handle.

“Although the results were not what we wanted, congratulations to all three teams. They fought hard and deserved more,he added.
