Super Eagles’ camp bubbles as Lookman, Nwabali, others arrive

African Footballer of the Year, Ademola Lookman, and first-choice goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, were among 14 players who participated in the Super Eagles’ first training session in Rabat, Morocco, ahead of Thursday’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup Play-Off against Gabon.

Head coach Eric Sekou Chelle and his technical crew conducted the session, which also featured goalkeeper Amas Obasogie and Sevilla stars Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke. The camp has been further boosted by the arrivals of Bright Osayi-Samuel and Raphael Onyedika, while star striker Victor Osimhen is expected to join the full squad for today’s session.

Meanwhile, Osimhen has shifted focus to the World Cup qualifiers after Galatasaray’s 1-0 defeat to Kocaelispor in the Turkish Super Lig on Sunday.

“I have to travel. The game has happened; it has happened. I have moved on from that. Now I focus on my national team,” the forward said.

His return and determination are seen as vital to Nigeria’s push to reach the final qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup.

The Super Eagles will face Gabon in the semi-finals of the African playoffs on Thursday, with kick-off set for 5 p.m. Nigerian time.
