- Players in first training for Libya
The Super Eagles’ camp in Uyo is now in full swing as they prepare for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) double-header qualifiers against the Mediterranean Knights of Libya. Twenty of the invited players participated in the team’s first training session yesterday.
Following the arrival of goalkeepers Amas Obasogie and Stanley Nwabali on Monday, 18 more players joined, including captain William Troost-Ekong and Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, ahead of the evening’s training session.
Other arrivals were the England-based contingent of Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City);Taiwo Awoniyi (Nottingham Forest), Alex Iwobi (Fulham) Calvin Bassey (Fulham); Olaoluwa Aina (Nottingham Forest) as well Benjamin Tanimu (Crawley Town).
Also already in Uyo are Italy-based trio of Samuel Chukwueze (AC Milan); Ademola Lookman (Atalanta FC) and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru (Lazio) while from the German Bundesliga is the duo of Victor Boniface (Bayer Leverkusen) and Frank Onyeka (Augsburg). Others in camp is France-based veteran striker Moses Simon (FC Nantes) as well as Bruno Onyemaechi (Boavista); Raphael Onyedika (Club Brugge) and US-based midfielder Alhassan Yusuf Abdullahi (New England Revolution)
Team Media Officer, Promise Efoghe said the training went well without hitches as the coach Austin Eguavoen-led crew took the 20 players through their paces in order to shake off jet lag and body conditioning ahead of further sessions before Friday’s MatchDay Three encounter against the visiting North Africans.
The four players that missed yesterday’ s first training session were striking pairs of Kelechi Iheanacho and Chidera Ejuke who both plays in the LaLiga with Sevilla as we as Bright Fenerbahce defender Osayi-Samuel and West Bromwich Albion defender Oluwasemilogo Ajayi.
