Super Eagles defender, Leon Balogun, has urged fans to keep supporting the Nigeria national team despite their exit from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) at the Roumde Adjia Stadium in Cameroon.
Nigeria was eliminated from the 2021 AFCON Round of 16 after losing 1-0 to Tunisia in Cameroon on Sunday night.
Youssef Msakni’s second-half goal ensured Tunisia defeated Nigeria and qualified for the AFCON quarter-finals.
Alex Iwobi was shown a red card during the encounter after receiving two yellow cards as goalkeeper Maduka Okoye was guilty of letting Msakni’s drive get past him.
However, Umar Sadiq had a glorious chance late to equalize during the encounter, but the Almeria forward dragged his shot wide with only Tunisia goalkeeper, Ben Said to beat.
But Balogun, who missed the 2021 AFCON due to injury, pleaded with fans not to take out their anger on Super Eagles players.
In a tweet via his Twitter handle, the Rangers star wrote: “An extremely bitter defeat ends our title aspirations for #AFCON2021. That doesn’t change the fact that they’ve been a joy to watch.
“So please, don’t let negativity and bashing of players take over. Instead, keep supporting them like you did before today!”
