Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has described his team’s victory against Leone Stars of Sierra Leone as well deserved.
The Eagles put behind their back to back defeat in two friendlies played in the United state to put up a better show in Peseiro’s first competitive match as Eagles coach.
The match which was played behind closed doors saw the visitors shoot into the lead as early as the 11th minute in what appeared to depict a desire to shock Eagles and compound the woes of the three time African Champions who did not only book early exit at the last edition in Cameroon but also failed to pick a ticket the world cup in Qatar.
But a more determined Eagles levelled up five minutes later through Everton ace Alex Iwobi. Victor Osimhen produced the icing on the cake to hand Eagles a 2-1 victory and three points in the kitty.
An elated Peseiro told reporters after the match; “We were better than Sierra Leone in this game, we deserve to win. We changed the setup in the second half, I think it was only the last 10 minutes our opponent had some good moments,”
“We created a lot of scoring chances, we could have won with a bigger margin, but the team needs more time and we must work.”
The Eagles will next face Sao Tome and Principe in Agadir, Morocco in continuation of the qualifiers ahead of the 34th Nations cup in Cote d Ivoire.
