Nigeria have qualified for this year’s Women Africa Cup of Nations Championship, AWCON, following a 1-0 win over Cote d’Ivoire in Abidjan on Wednesday.
The Super Falcons had won the first leg 2-0.
This means the nine-time African champions have booked their spot with an aggregate 3-0 win.
The Ivorians gave everything in the return leg at the Stade Robert Champroux, but met a steely Nigerian defence and an inspired goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie.
There were no goals in the first half, but Francisca Ordega had a goal ruled out and Nnadozie saved a penalty from the hosts.
A minute before regulation time ended, Esther Okoronkwo, winning only her second cap for Nigeria, scored the winner.
Victory and qualification for Morocco 2022 is sweet revenge over the Lady Elephants, who bumped the Falcons on the road to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
