The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has registered the Super Falcons for the WAFU B Four-Nation Tournament in Abidjan as part of preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

The invitational tournament will hold in Côte d’Ivoire from February 27 to March 7, serving as a tune-up ahead of WAFCON, scheduled for March 17 to April 3.

NFF Director of Competitions, Ruth David, confirmed Nigeria’s participation, describing the competition as a key component of the team’s build-up to the continental championship.

She said the WAFU B Secretariat invited Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal— all qualified for WAFCON — for the mini-tournament. David added that the Super Falcons’ squad submitted by head coach Justin Madugu would be unveiled in the coming days through official NFF channels.

Meanwhile, five Super Falcons players have been nominated for the IFFHS Women’s Africa XI for 2025.

Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, defenders Michelle Alozie and Ashleigh Plumptre, as well as midfielders Christy Ucheibe and Rasheedat Ajibade, made the shortlist released by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).

Nnadozie’s selection reflects her consistency and commanding displays for club and country, with strong performances in Europe further cementing her status among Africa’s elite goalkeepers.

Alozie and Plumptre form a dependable defensive unit, while Ucheibe and Ajibade add drive, balance and creativity in midfield. Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak, Zambia’s Barbra Banda and Malawi’s Temwa Chawinga also feature in the star-studded XI.

The IFFHS said the team is a projection based on form, consistency and statistical analysis, rather than a retrospective award, underscoring Nigeria’s sustained influence in African women’s football.
