The National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, is set to be the venue for the inaugural Urhobo Day celebration in the city on Saturday, November 16.
The event, which is organized by the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), will bring together Urhobo sons and daughters from around the world, alongside notable leaders such as the Governors of Delta and Lagos States, Senators, House of Representatives members, and traditional rulers.
The UPU’s presence in Lagos has a deep historical significance, with the establishment of its Apapa and Ikeja branches going back to 1934 and 1964, respectively.
The organization has evolved into a major force in uniting the Urhobo people in Lagos, focusing on cultural preservation, development, and unity.
The November 16 event will be a celebration of this legacy, featuring Urhobo cultural performances and a series of activities aimed at showcasing the richness of Urhobo traditions.
The occasion is also expected to attract Urhobo sons and daughters from around the world, including the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States.
