Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori, 6 Others Out With Coronavirus Scare

Chelsea of England’s Nigerian-born duo of Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori are part of a roll call of eight of The Blues’ players that are feared to be infected by coronavirus and have been directed to stay in quarantine, but no specific names were identified as those who tested positive. gathered that Chelsea’s pre-season preparations have been disrupted to a very large extent by the development, as Abraham, Tomori and the other affected players have to stay in quarantine after returning with symptoms of COVID-19 from their summer break.

Although the names of those affected were not officially disclosed by the London-based English Premier League club, the development has put The Blues’ pre-season programme in a tight spot; as Tomori, Abraham and the other six players will not be part of the team’s training sessions for now, because they have been told to self-isolate.

British tabloid, Daily Mail revealed that Chelsea officially confirmed early Thursday that some of their players have tested positive for COVID-19 and are already in quarantine in order to limit a possible threat of further spreading the ailment among other members of Frank Lampard’s side.

Although Chelsea are back in training and building towards the new season, which they will start away to Brighton & Hove Albion at Amex Stadium on September 14, Abraham and Tomori as well as the other six members of the side are following government guidelines on self-isolation.

The report by Sportsmail added: “Chelsea’s preparations for the new season have been thrown into turmoil after they were hit by a coronavirus outbreak – with eight of their players missing pre-season as they self-isolate.

“Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Christian Pulisic and Fikayo Tomori are all understood to be in self-isolation after they were pictured on holiday on the Greek island of Mykonos before pre-season training began last weekend. Jorginho, Ross Barkley, Emerson and Michy Batshuayi are also reported to be staying away from Chelsea’s Cobham base.

“The Telegraph report that six players have the virus and a further two are quarantining because of close contact with those affected. The players all underwent coronavirus tests at the end of last week ahead of their planned return to pre-season training. But, as a result of the need to quarantine, a number of Chelsea players have yet to report back to the club’s Cobham HQ.

“Abraham and Mount are in Gareth Southgate’s England squad and their quarantine period may offer the Three Lions a headache with their Nations League tie away at Iceland coming up next Saturday.

“Midfielder Barkley, who was left out of Southgate’s squad through injury, has also been pictured in Mykonos. The 26-year-old had been pictured at the island’s SantAnna Beach Club – where Abraham and Tomori had also been seen.”
