Tammy Abraham, Other Chelsea Loanees Shine In A Bad Weekend For Parent Club

We round-up the latest loan action for Chelsea players which includes some dramatic matches in a week that saw their parent hammered 6-0 by Manchester City in the EPL.

In the Championship, Nigerian born, Tammy Abraham was on the scoresheet for Aston Villa in a remarkable Friday night game against Sheffield United. The Blades were leading 3-0 with eight minutes of normal time remaining before the Villans staged a late comeback. Abraham  pulled it back to 3-2 in the 86th minute, with the equaliser coming in the fourth minute of stoppage time. In scoring, he became the first Villa player to hit 20 league goals in a campaign since Peter Withe in their title-winning season of 1980/81.

Another on-loan strikers, Michy Batshuayi, made his second appearance for Crystal Palace, coming off the bench for the final half hour as the Eagles came from behind to draw 1-1 with West Ham at Selhurst Park. It was a Saturday afternoon to forget for Kurt Zouma, who played in Everton’s 1-0 defeat at Watford and received a red card after the final whistle when he was shown two yellows for dissent. In the preceding game on Wednesday, he had played in Everton’s home 2-0 loss to Man City.

Back in the Championship, Tomas Kalas and Jay Dasilva both featured in Bristol City’s rearguard as they won 1-0 at Blackburn, with Kasey Palmer coming off the bench for Bristol against the club he had represented on loan in the first half of the season. Lee Johnson’s side are unbeaten in 14 games in all competitions and have won their last six league games. They occupy sixth place, one spot above and level on points with Derby who won 2-0 against Hull. Fikayo Tomori was in action for the Rams, while Todd Kane played for the Tigers.

There were no goals in the match between Sheffield Wednesday and Reading, with Lewis Baker and Matt Miazga starting for Reading and Michael Hector featuring for Wednesday. Reece James played in Wigan’s midfield as the Latics drew 1-1 at Rotherham.

Trevoh Chalobah played in a fiery East Anglia derby. His side Ipswich lost 3-0 at Norwich and as well as clashes between players, both managers, including Paul Lambert on his return to his former club, were sent off. Ipswich remain marooned at the bottom of the Championship table.

In League One, Bradley Collins kept a clean sheet for Burton who won 2-0 at AFC Wimbledon. The young goalkeeper spoke to this website at the weekend.

Dujon Sterling helped Coventry City return to winning ways as the Sky Blues beat Rochdale 1-0. In League Two, Jacob Maddox came on for Cheltenham who were beaten 3-0 at Colchester.

In La Liga, Alvaro Morata started up front for Atletico in the Madrid derby, but it was Real who came out on top, winning 3-1. Kenneth Omeruo helped Leganes keep a clean sheet and win 3-0 at home to Real Betis.

Victor Moses came off the bench at half-time for Fenerbahce who finished the game in Turkey with nine men as they lost 1-0 at Kayserispor.

Tiemoue Bakayoko and AC Milan beat Cagliari 3-0 in the San Siro. Mario Pasalic came on late in the game for Atalanta who won 2-1 at home to SPAL and are in an impressive fifth place in Serie A. Milan are fourth. Lucas Piazon came off the bench for bottom side Chievo in a 3-0 defeat to Roma.

Eduardo and Jake Clarke-Salter were part of the Vitesse side which lost 2-1 away at Groningen. They are fifth in the Eredivisie. In Belgium, Kylian Hazard was a second-half sub in Cercle Bruges 2-2 draw against local rivals Club Bruges.

In the French second tier, Victorien Angban came on for league leaders Metz who were held to a goalless draw by Lens.

In the Dutch second division, Fankaty Dabo came off the bench in the first half for Sparta Rotterdam in a 3-0 loss against FC Twente.

In Northern Ireland, there was a tough home game for Jared Thompson and Warrenpoint Town who let in five without reply to Glentoran. It would have been more but for a couple of good saves by the Chelsea Academy keeper.
