Team Green win Ikeja Golf Club Independence Day tourney

Team Green are the champions of the 2024 Ikeja Golf Club Independence Day tournament held to mark Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary.

Team Green led by the vice-captain of the prestigious club, AbdulRasheed Adebisi won with 855 stable ford points while Team White led by the captain of the club, Babatunde Ojo had 786 points to place second.

The tournament which is an annual event, witnessed for the first time the introduction of the  Team White and Team Green format in reflection of the national colours.

In the individual category, Mojeed Aberuagba emerged overall winner while Fred Appah was the overall runner-up with Ben Onwe securing the overall third spot.

Jimoh Ogundare and Bidemi Babatunde Ojo were the overall fourth winner and overall fifth winner respectively.

Speaking during the ceremony to signal the end of the tournament, captain of the club, Babatunde Ojo thanked the sponsors and golfers for the roles they played in making the event a huge success.

Said he: ” We’re gathered here to celebrate as our dear country turns 64. We thank God thus far for our country and we know that Nigeria is the only country we have.

“I will like to appreciate our sponsors for making this event a huge success. We  at Ikeja Golf Club are grateful for your support and friendship over the years “

Ojo also thanked the golfers for coming out to participate in the Independence Day Tournament held at the Ikeja Golf Club.

Consolation and individual prizes were later awarded to deserving golfers.

A total of 128 golfers took part in this year’s tournament.
