Nigeria’s Favour Ofili expectedly failed to make the Women’s finalists for The Bowerman award after they were announced Monday by U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Anna Hall of Florida, Camryn Rogers of California and Abby Steiner of Kentucky were chosen by The Bowerman Advisory Board as the most outstanding athletes in collegiate women’s track & field during the 2022 indoor and outdoor seasons.
Hall, Rogers and Steiner combined for six individual NCAA titles (five individual, one relay), a share of five collegiate records and 22 all-time top-10 performances in the collegiate record books.
Ofili was named in the final 10 shortlist a forthnight ago but the inability of the 19 year old Nigerian to win any title in both the indoor and outdoor season may have heavily counted against her.
The Bowerman award is the collegiate track & field’s highest individual honour.
No Nigerian US collegiate athlete has ever won the award. Only two have made the final three shortlist and they are Blessing Okagbare who placed third in 2010 and Divine Oduduru who also placed third in 2019.
