Irish athlete and University of Texas’ Corporate Communication major, Rhasdidat Adeleke is among the 10 women named as semifinalists for collegiate track & field’s highest honor – The Bowerman.
The announcement was made Wednesday by the by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Adeleke is one of three University of Texas student athletes named in the final 10. The other two are Julien Alfred and Ackelia Smith.
Adeleke made the cut following her incredible 2023 indoor and outdoor season.
The 20 year old won the 400 meters title at the NCAA DI Outdoor Track and Field Championships in 49.20, becoming the second-fastest collegian in history.
She joined teammate Alfred as part of four outdoor relay teams that won titles at the Texas Relays, setting collegiate records in three of them (4×100, 4×200 and sprint medley)
The Irish 200m and 400m indoor and outdoor record holder’s impressive run on the third leg of the 4×100 squad lowered the championships record three times with a best of 41.55 in prelim work before winning the NCAA title.
Indoors, Adeleke set a short-lived indoor Championships record in the 400m (50.33), finished as the runner-up at the NCAA DI Indoor Championships and owns three of the top-7 collegiate times in indoor history.
