Tima Godbless finally joins Ofili, Onojuvwevwo at LSU

Date:

Nigeria U20 100m record holder, Tima Seikeseye Godbless has become the latest addition to the growing list of Nigerian athletes who have been offered scholarship to study by Louisiana State University, LSU.

Godbless who ran 11.09 personal best in August has become the second Nigerian woman to be recruited by the University this year after Ella Onojuvwevwo.

The duo has now joined Favour Ofili, the reigning Nigeria 200m record holder indoors and out at the school.

Godbless’ name has now been added to the roster of student athletes that will compete for the school in the NCAA indoor and outdoor circuit in 2023.

The pretty 18 year old has had a remarkable 2022, jumping from an 11.48 runner in 2021 to an 11.09 performer exactly a year later.

She started the year with an 11.51 effort in March and improved geometrically to 11.25 at the African Athletics Championships in Mauritius three months later to set a new personal best.

Godbless reserved her best for her last major competition of the year, the World U20 Championships in Cali, Colombia where she opened her campaign by scorching to an 11.09 lifetime best.

The time catapaulted her above Uduak Ekah to the number one spot on the Nigerian U20 all-time list. Ekah reigned as Nigerian U20 100m record holder for 23 years following the 11.11 she ran in Lausanne, Switzerland in 1999.

Godbless also moved to number 12 in the Nigerian 100m all-time list in the senior category.

LSU head coach, Dennis Shaver will be hoping Godbless and Onojuvwevwo are as successful on the track as Ofili who has broken several school records since she joined in January 2021.
