President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said his administration is stepping up diplomatic efforts to secure vital equipment and training for the nation’s security and intelligence agencies in a renewed push to tackle insecurity.
Speaking on Sunday while receiving state governors at his Lagos residence, the President disclosed that engagements with global leaders were already opening avenues for collaboration to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture. He cited recent talks with French President Emmanuel Macron as part of the ongoing efforts.
Tinubu noted that security cooperation featured prominently in his recent foreign engagements, particularly during his visit to the United Kingdom. He added that his administration would leverage Nigeria’s international goodwill and existing credit facilities to secure the required support.
“One of the major discussions in the UK is equipment and support. I can report to you that yesterday again, I had a lengthy discussion with Emmanuel Macron on their collaboration with us for equipment and support,” the President said.
He added that efforts were ongoing to reach out to other countries willing to assist Nigeria in combating insecurity through provision of modern tools and capacity building for security personnel.
“If we have to spend our goodwill and line of credit, we have those who are willing to support us with equipment and training,” Tinubu stated.
Describing insecurity as a direct threat to national development, the President stressed that tackling the menace remained a top priority for his administration, calling for collective action by all levels of government.
“Insecurity is an enemy of development, progress and prosperity. The next phase of our struggle is staring us in the face, and it is the challenge of insecurity in this country,” he said.
Tinubu commended the governors for their show of unity and commitment, noting that their presence despite short notice reflected a shared resolve to confront national challenges.
“I’m very surprised at the short notice that this number is extremely impressive. It shows our sincerity, commitment and the value of friendship and togetherness,” he remarked.

The President urged state governments to complement federal efforts by strengthening grassroots interventions, particularly in caring for vulnerable populations, which he described as a critical layer in addressing the root causes of insecurity.
“We have a pyramid that we must work on in the States. “You are all doing well, but you can do better by caring for the vulnerable,” he said.

Tinubu also warned of potential economic pressures arising from the ongoing Middle East crisis, noting that global developments could trigger inflationary trends, increase fuel prices, and worsen the cost of living.
“I know this Middle East crisis will elicit inflation, will affect our purchasing power… resulting in transportation problems and high prices,” he said, while urging preparedness for possible labour demands for government support.
On national solidarity, the President extended condolences to Vice President Kashim Shettima over recent developments in Borno State, commending his swift return to the state to sympathise with affected communities.
“I like what you did; returning immediately to Borno and collectively giving a message of sympathy and condolence to our people there. We are with you,” Tinubu said.
Reaffirming his administration’s determination to defeat terrorism, the President said ongoing investments in technology and security equipment would be intensified.
“As our investment in technology and equipment continues, we must defeat terrorism and all of these characters,” he declared.
The meeting underscored growing coordination between the federal and state governments as Nigeria confronts persistent security challenges, with the President expressing confidence that collective efforts would ultimately yield victory.
