Three-time Olympic gold medalist and five-time world champion Tirunesh Dibaba will make a return to competitive running on Sunday at the Houston Marathon four years after she last competed.
Unarguably one of the greatest distance runners of all time, Tirunesh last competed in 2018 and gave birth to her second child in 2019.
She successfully battled Covid-19 when the pandemic broke out in 2020 and the athlete who turned 35 year last October and won the 5000m and 10000m titles at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 says she is ready to return to the sports that has given her fame and fortune.
“Houston is a famous race, and my training has been going well,” said Dibaba, the 2017 Chicago Marathon Champion. “It seemed like the best way to test myself and see what could be next.” the 2017 Chicago Marathon champion said ahead of the January 15 event in Houston.
