World 100m hurdles champion and record holder (12.12), Tobiloba Amusan says Nigerian athletics is on the rise following another impressive and record-breaking, personal best setting showing by Nigerian track and field student athletes at the American collegiate circuit last weekend.

The duo of Favour Ofili and Rosemary Chukwuma, two of the athletes she ran with to win the 4x100m relay gold and set a new African record at the Commonwealth Games last August headlined the eye-catching performances of Nigerian athletes this past week.

”Nigerian athletics is indeed on the rise and I’m happy to see these young ladies contribute their quota. It was fantastic to watch them shatter various records over the weekend.

Favour Ofili’s time of 22.36s, is a World Lead, an indoor African record, a national record, and a school record, while Rosemary Chukwuma’s time of 22.82s is a school record and the second fastest by a Nigerian woman. Bravo, ladies!. Let’s continue to place Nigeria on the athletics map of the world!’, Amusan wrote on her facebook page.

Like she did last year, Amusan is skipping the indoor season to concentrate on her training as she bids to successfully defend her three outdoor titles this year.

The 25 year old is the reigning African Games, World Athletics Championships and Diamond League 100m hurdles champion.
