Tragedy for Nigerian football as auto-crash claims lives of four Bayelsa Queens supporters

Tragedy struck for Nigerian football following a fatal auto-crash on Sunday June 11 that has claimed the lives of four Bayelsa Queens supporters on their way back home from the NWFL playoffs.

The Bayelsa Queens supporters SportsRation gathered were returning to Bayelsa State from Delta state where they had gone to support their team in a 2022/2023 Nigeria Women’s football League final game vs Delta Queens on Sunday June 11 when the crash occurred.

Bayelsa Queens FC fell 1-2 to Delta Queens who were crowned Champions of the NWFL. On their way back to Bayelsa State same evening, the fans were involved in the fatal crash.

As of the time of this report, four persons have been confirmed dead while 7 others are receiving treatments for varying degrees of injury.

In reaction to the incident, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborewori has sent condolence message to his Bayelsa State counterpart Senator Duoye Diri, on the tragedy which has thrown Bayelsa State and the Nigeria Football community into mourning.

Sheriff acknowledged the pain news of the tragic accident has caused while praying for the repose of the departed souls.
