Arsenal have been given a big boost as they consider a move for Lucas Paqueta, as Lyon chief Bruno Cheyrou admits the player could leave.
The Gunners have already brought in five new players this summer.
Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko have both arrived from Manchester City, while Fabio Vieira arrived from Porto.
Arsenal have also signed Marquinhos and US goalkeeper Matt Turner.
However, they are admirers of Paqueta and have been tipped to make a bid for several months.
Cheyrou has now given the Premier League side encouragement a deal can be struck.
He told a press conference: “We need to reduce the squad size.
“In terms of departures, we will analyse offers on a case-by-case basis but the economics will come into consideration. We will consider the offers with Jean-Michel Aulas and Vincent Ponsot in order to make the best decisions.
“I am here to ensure the best team possible, but there are other things to take into account as well.”
On Paqueta in particular, he added: “We are prepared for every eventuality.”
The 24-year-old netted 10 goals in 42 matches last term, as well as registering seven assists.
