Rene Meulensteen, a former assistant to ex-Man United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, has warned Netherlands star Cody Gakpo against a move to Old Trafford.
He said there was no reason the player should dump his current club for Manchester United who are not even in the Champions League this season.
Meulensteen further described Manchester United’s transfer policy as a ‘big mess’.
Manchester United have expressed interest in signing PSV winger Gakpo, who has made 142 appearances for the Dutch side and earned seven caps for the national team.
Meulensteen told Algemeen Dagblad, “Manchester United’s transfer policy is a big mess.
“If I were Gakpo, I would say, ‘thank you for the honour but I’m staying with PSV’. I would say to him: ‘boy, there are more clubs coming… at PSV you had the chance to play Champions League, you’re on that [path]’. At the moment I’m not sure about Manchester United.”
