Transfer: Big money flop – Crook reacts as £72m Arsenal star is set to leave Emirates

Date:

Arsenal look set to take a huge loss on their £72million signing of Nicolas Pepe with the forward poised to leave the Emirates Stadium in a matter of days.

The 27-year-old is set to join Ligue 1 side Nice on loan, having fallen out of favour under Mikel Arteta.

The Arsenal of five players at the Emirates, including the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, means that the Ivorian would find it difficult to play.

Arsenal are still active in the transfer market and are set to bring in Chelsea winger, Callum Hudson-Odoi, which means that Pepe would further go down the pecking order.

“One player who hasn’t worked out for Arsenal is the big-money flop Pepe,” talkSPORT football correspondent Alex Crook said.

“They paid £72m but he’s clearly not part of the furniture anymore. Nice are looking at him as well as Blackburn’s Ben Brereton Diaz on a possible loan move with an option to buy.

“But Arsenal aren’t going to get anywhere near their £72m back.”
