Transfer deadline: Chelsea suffer major blow

Date:

Chelsea are set to miss out on signing defender Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig this summer.

The Premier League giants have been in advanced talks over Gvardiol’s signature in the past few days.

The Blues are keen to pay up to £75million for the defender, who will remain on loan with Leipzig until June 2023.

However, speaking on the development, RB Leipzig director, Oliver Mintzlaff, has now ruled out any possibility of selling Gvardiol to Chelsea or anyone else before the transfer deadline.

Speaking to Bild, Mintzlaff said: “I can confirm that Josko will play with us this season and very likely next.”

Gvardiol, 20, joined RB Leipzig from Dinamo Zagreb back in 2020.
