Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel has revealed the kind of player his team really needs to sign this summer.
Tuchel said Chelsea needs to sign a new ‘generation’ player to help his side’s ageing defence.
The German said this following Chelsea’s Premier League 1-0 victory over Everton at the weekend.
Recall that Chelsea have been linked with Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana, who is 21 years of age.
Tuchel’s squad currently have the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly, 31, Thiago Silva, 37, and César Azpilicueta, 32, in their defence.
The trio started in Saturday’s Premier League 1-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park.
“It is a lot of experience, it’s maybe another of age, it’s a lot of experience and they have their quality and they know what they’re doing,” Tuchel told reporters after Chelsea defeated Everton, via the Evening Standard.
“We also need to make sure we have a new generation to take over in the next few years, but the guys are strong. That is why they’re under contract and the guys have our trust.
“There needs to be [balance]. I think it is necessary. The game in general, is very physical and demands a lot. This is the situation. We knew it before.
“Azpi is the legend that he’s, Thiago is at the moment still very important to us and when we had the chance to sign Kalidou we did it because we believe that he has some years ahead of him.”
