Manchester United are joining the interest in AC Milan attacker Rafael Leao.

The Mirror says United boss Erik ten Hag is a big admirer of the 23-year-old and sent scouts to watch him face Chelsea in the Italian club’s two recent Champions League ties. Chelsea and Manchester City have also been keeping tabs on Leao – and Milan value him at around £60million.

The Portuguese international has less than 18 months left on his contract and is refusing to sign a new deal despite a five-year offer worth in excess of £100,000-a-week being put on the table. Ten Hag will have to wait until next summer to make a move after being told money will be at a premium in the January transfer window.

The United boss had been hoping to see Anthony Martial stake his claim for a long-term future at Old Trafford. But the Frenchman’s injury problems have prompted Ten Hag to look at other options.

Leao started his career at Sporting Lisbon but left to join French outfit Lille for nothing in 2018 after cancelling his contract following an incident in which he claimed he had been attacked by fans of the club. A year later, he was snapped up by Milan for £30million and last season helped them win the Serie A title for the first time in 11 years.
