Transfer window: Why we signed £60m Isak, explains Newcastle boss Howe

Newcastle United boss, Eddie Howe, has confirmed a deal is close for Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak.

The Swede underwent a medical at Newcastle’s Benton base on Thursday after a fee rising to £60m was agreed with La Real.

This morning, Howe said: “It is not clear, we hope to be able to solve it.

“There is no guarantee with this type of thing because we are in other people’s hands, but hopefully.

“We were constantly looking for an offensive player but that (the injury to Callum Wilson) changed our focus a bit in terms of the type. But we are excited to hopefully sign Alex, who can be a big player for us. He has his best years ahead of him and he can be an exciting player.”

Isak has agreed a six-year deal with Newcastle and there’s hope he’ll make Sunday’s clash with Wolves.
