Transfers: Why Chippa United rejected  offers for Nwabali

Siviwe Chippa Mpengesi, Chairman of Chippa United, has emphasized that the club refused to let Stanley Nwabali leave despite numerous offers following his impressive performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Instead, the Super Eagles goalkeeper signed a three-year contract extension with Chippa United, turning down offers from both domestic and international clubs.

Mpengesi confirmed that Kaizer Chiefs expressed interest, but negotiations did not reach an agreement. He also revealed that Amazulu made a minimal offer for Nwabali, which was deemed insufficient.

“It was never about the price; there were two teams who were interested. One of them is Amazulu, but they were offering peanut,” the Chippa United helmsman disclosed. “There were talks we had with Kaizer Chiefs before the end of the season but we saw them signing another goalkeeper.

“For Kaizer Chiefs, we were even going to give them ( Nwabali), and the price was not even that high. We were more looking at the interest of the player, you know, he was going to play for a big club.

“Amazulu were offering peanuts; they wanted us to give them Nwabali for that amount; that was a disrespect, “he concluded.

Nwabali kept 26 games for Chippa United last season and got booked 11 times.
