Soldiers operating around Yankwada, acting on credible intelligence about armed bandits moving from Daurawa, Kira in Katsina State towards the Kano axis, engaged the criminals in a fierce gunfight.
Maj. Zubair Babatunde, spokesman for 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, Kano, said the troops received information about the bandits’ movement around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday night.

He added, “Troops from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Yankwada swiftly mobilised a patrol to the Kano–Katsina border to intercept the suspected bandits. On arrival at Ungwan Dogo/Ungwan Tudu, they made contact with the armed bandits and engaged them in a fierce gun battle. The bandits were overpowered and forced to retreat in disarray towards Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.”
Babatunde confirmed that Halilu was rescued during the encounter and noted that troops remain on high alert, intensifying patrols to prevent further criminal activity and ensure lasting security in the border communities.
