Tyronne Ebuehi Remembered As Eagles’ Missing Man

Benfica of Portugal defender, Tyronne Ebuehi has not been forgotten after all, as the former ADO Den Haag of Holland right-back’s name has popped up in pre-competition forecasts ahead of this year’s Africa Cup of Nations, for which he has been cited as one of the missing stars.

Though Ebuehi has not played a single competitive match for club and country, since getting injury during pre-season, following his transfer to Benfica, the fair-skinned lad has now gained some words of sympathy from Nigeria’s coaching crew.

Indeed, Ebuehi took a switch of allegiance from the country of his birth, Holland, for him to star for the Super Eagles at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and though he has not been able to don the green-and-white ever since, the team’s coach, Gernot Rohr is leading eulogies for him.

Rohr hinted that he would have loved to have the velvety Ebuehi in his squad to Egypt 2019, but says the lad was unfortunate not to be included on the Eagles’ roster after failing to recover from the quite troublesome cruciate ligament injury he suffered in pre-season.

The Franco-German gaffer added that Ebuehi will be missed in Egypt, as he recalls the lad’s versatile abilities, which were highlighted during the Eagles’ second match of Russia 2018 against Iceland.

Before then, Ebuehi played in all the Eagles’ friendlies before the World Cup, but he only became cap-tied when he made his competitive debut against Iceland on June 22, 2018 – after starring in six build-up games.

However, while admitting he would have loved to have Ebuehi in Egypt, Rohr said he is making do with what is at hand, and concluded with a big verdict that his band of youngsters will thrill Africa in the coming days.

Rohr told “The team is missing a good player, Tyronne Ebuhei, who has been injured for months.

“The team has a young goalkeeper and two other goalkeepers with good experience and they played well during the last friendly against Senegal.”
