U-17 AFCON: Bullish Golden Eaglets target World Cup ticket against Burkina Faso

Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets will look to secure a spot at the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup when they take on Burkina Faso in a West African derby on Thursday (today).

The quarter-final clash is billed for the Nelson Mandela Stadium, Algiers. Kick-off is 8pm Nigerian time.

This will be the second meeting between both teams within a year.

The Golden Eaglets stopped the Young Stallions in the final of the WAFU B U-17 Championship in Ghana last June.

Nduka Ugbade’s side have been impressive in this competition winning two and losing one from three group fixtures.

The Eaglets have however been wasteful in front of goal and need to be more clinical at this crucial stage of the competition.

Burkina Faso started the competition on a losing note going down to a 1-0 defeat against Mali.

Brahima Traore’s side however defeated defending champions Cameroon 2-1 to book a place in the last four.

The Burkinabes will be without their talismanic forward Ousmane Camara for this important fixture.

Camara is suspended for accumulation of yellow cards.
