U-17 WWC: Flamingos tackle USA, seek to break quarter-final jinx

Nigeria’s Flamingos will battle the United States of America for a place in the quarter-finals at the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India on Friday (Friday).

It is the first time both countries will be meeting at this level

The Flamingos have failed to reach the semi-finals in six previous editions.

It’s the fourth time the West Africans will be playing in the quarter-finals.

Forward Opeyemi Ajakaye, though yet to register a goal for Nigeria in the competition, has been the team’s key star.

The 16-year-old won back-to-back Player of the Match against New Zealand and Chile and much will be expected from her against the Americans.

Head Coach, Bankole Olowookere will also bank on the likes of Aminat Bello, Blessing Emmanuel Bisola Mosaku and captain Alvine Dah-Zossu to deliver the goods for his side.

The Americans will hope to reach the semis for the first time since 2008 when they finished as runners-up at the inaugural edition in New Zealand.
