U17 Women’s World Cup: FIFA, NFF Congratulate Flamingos For Winning Bronze

The World football governing body, FIFA and the Nigeria Football Federation NFF) have congratulated the Flamingos for beating Germany in the Third-place match to win bronze medal.

The Bankole Olowookere led team on Sunday beat European champions on penalties to become the Africans to achieve the feat.

Congratilating Nigeria, FIFA wrote on Twitter, “Bronze goes to the Nigeria!

Congratulations.

In similar vein, the Nigeria Football Federation NFF on its Facebook handle wrote, “Congratulations to our Flamingos who finished third at the U17 Women’s World Cup in India. We are proud of your feat.”

The ongoing 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup is FIFA football World Cup in India. It is the 7th edition of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, the multinational–international women’s youth football championship, contested by the under-17 national teams of the member associations of FIFA, since its inception in 2008. The tournament is being hosted by India, which would have hosted the 2020 edition before it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is the second time that India have been hosting a FIFA tournament, after the men’s 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup, and the first time that India hosting a FIFA women’s football tournament.

Morocco and Tanzania, along with host India national teams, did their debuts in this world cup.

Spain are the defending champions, having won their first title in 2018.
