Former Manchester City and Manchester United midfielder, Owen Hargreaves has predicted striker Erling Haaland to score 45 goals in all competitions this season for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Hargreaves said this after Haaland led Man City to beat Sevilla 4-0 in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League group stage tie in Spain.
Haaland’s brace and a goal each from Phil Foden and Ruben Dias gave the Premier League champions the victory over Sevilla.
The Norwegian’s two goals against Sevilla mean he has now scored 12 goals in his first seven matches for Man City so far this term.
And Hargreaves believes the 22-year-old will break Liverpool ace Mohamed Salah’s Premier League record for a 38-game season when he scored 32 goals in 2017-2018.
When asked how many goals Haaland will get this season, Hargreaves told BT Sport: 45, I think, in all competitions. I think he breaks the Prem one (record) and gets 45 overall.”
Hargreaves was joined in the studio by former Premier League stars Rio Ferdinand and Joleon Lescott, and they both agreed that Haaland has every chance of scoring more than 40 goals this season.
“I reckon he gets 41,” Ferdinand predicted.
“Early 40s,” Lescott added.
Haaland will now hope to continue his impressive display for Man City when they host Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday in a Premier League tie at the Etihad Stadium.
