Former Chelsea forward, Joe Cole has slammed the club’s eighty-nine million pound signing, Mykhailo Mudryk for the Ukrainina’s role in Graham Potter’s loss to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The Blues were beaten 1-0 by the German side who now go into the return leg at Stamford Bridge with a slim advantage.
Karim Adeyemi scored the only goal of the match for the Bundesliga side.
Dortmund’s goal came from a Blues’ corner which was cleared to Adeyemi on the edge of the box.
The 21-year-old forward, blitzed past record signing midfielder Enzo Fernandez and rounded goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga to calmly give his side the slim advantage going into the second leg at Stamford Bridge.
And while last man Fernandez has been criticised for the goal, Cole believes another player is at fault.
Mudryk was the closest Chelsea player to Adeyemi but could not stop him from speeding away with the ball virtually unopposed.
“There needs to be a bit of blame on Mudryk,” Chelsea icon, Cole said on BT Sport.
“As soon as you realise that the ball [has been cleared], right, switch on defensively. He just lets [Adeyemi] run off him.
“I feel like quick players can lose concentration because they feel that their pace can get them away with it.”
Mudryk appeared to be on his way to Arsenal during the January transfer window but ended up at Stamford Bridge in a £89m deal, with the Blues hijacking the Ukraine international.
