UCL: Messi matches Thierry Henry, surpasses Cristiano Ronaldo’s record after penalty miss against Real Madrid

Date:

By missing the spot kick in Paris-Saint Germain’s 1-0 win over Real Madrid in their Champions League last-16 tie, Lionel Messi has matched former Arsenal and Barcelona star, Thierry Henry’s record for most missed penalties in Champions League history.

He also surpassed Manchester United legend, Cristiano Ronaldo for most penalty attempts.

By stepping out to take the penalty on Tuesday, Messi surpassed former Real Madrid and Juventus, Ronaldo’s 22 Champions League penalty attempts.

The Argentine forward has now missed five of 23 penalty attempts in the Champions League.

And that was the exact number of spot kicks missed by French legend, Thierry Henry during his playing days with Arsenal and Barcelona.

Real Madrid’s goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois dived the right way to deny the former Barcelona star after Kylian Mbappe had won the spot kick.
