……As New Season Kickstarts Soon
Africa’s foremost grassroots league, United Football Championship, UFC have made some strategic changes to reposition the league for the upcoming season.
This was disclosed during a press parley involving the club Owners and the media on Thursday at the VIP lounge of Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) sports facility in Surulere.
While speaking at the event, UFC chairman and President Dominion Hotspur FC, Emmanuel Udeogu, affirmed that due to the challenges they encountered in their first season and having learnt from those encumbrances, the league’s LMC have decided to prune down the numbers of participating teams from 22 to 14.
He also revealed that walkovers will no longer be entertained while also noting that clubs who do not make their full financial obligations before the commencement of the league will be thrown out.
Udeogu also revealed that they have changed the match venue from Abalti Barracks and Maracana pitch which hosted their games last season to Legacy pitch, at the Mainbowl of the National stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

The chairman of UFC also announced that they have partnered some top agencies in Europe in diverse areas while also pointing out that teams will be allowed to make extra jerseys for themselves to compliment the pair given to each team by the league, but will only need to attach the UFC badge on the new jerseys. But each team is expected to have a minimum of two jerseys.
Other board members who spoke at the event like the UFC vice chairman, Emeka Godson Ehirim, their Secretary, Frank Orji amongst others supported what the chairman had said.
Recall that Glorious Day FA won the UFC league last season with Box 2 Box as runners up, while Box 2 Box also defeated Dominion Hotspur 1-0 to cart away the Super 8.
The confirmed teams for this season are Glorious Day, G12, Dominion Hotspur, Box 2 Box, Spartans, FC Bethel Sporting and Charlesann.
Meanwhile, no concrete date has been fixed for the kick off of the league.
