Manchester United are ready to pay £63.3m to sign Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Napoli in January as new manager Ruben Amorim looks to resolve his team’s ongoing goalscoring issues.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, United have already opened discussions with Osimhen’s representatives and are currently leading the race for his signature, despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.
The Red Devils, who have scored just 21 goals this season—fewer than only four Premier League teams—will also need to pay Galatasaray an additional fee to terminate the 25-year-old’s season-long loan.
However, Osimhen recently reaffirmed his commitment to Galatasaray, saying, “I will not leave in January. I am at Galatasaray until the end of the season. I do not know what Galatasaray and Napoli are talking about afterwards, but if they come to me, we will talk. Galatasaray is a nice club that I like very much,” after scoring a brace in a 3-2 win over Tottenham.
Since joining Galatasaray in September, the Super Eagles star has been in superb form, netting 12 goals and providing five assists in 15 appearances across all competitions.
While Osimhen’s release clause is set at £75m, Napoli are reportedly willing to accept £63.3m in January.
Former Galatasaray coach Hamza Hamzaoğlu stated that the Turkish club cannot afford to make the deal permanent, adding, “It is difficult for Galatasaray to buy Victor Osimhen.
In fact, I can say that they cannot. Galatasaray can go up to a certain point in the figures, but after that, it may cause problems. Financial situations need to be considered.”
United’s struggles continued with back-to-back losses to Bournemouth and Wolves, leaving them in 14th place in the Premier League—closer to the relegation zone than the top four.
