Urhoghide’s Physical Style Excites Wednesday’s Coach

New signing at Sheffield Wednesday of England, Osaze Urhoghide has been described as a young defender that will add a strong physical edge and depth to the English Championship club this season.

The verdict is coming from Sheffield, as The Owls’ technical unit rolled out statistics and key points to celebrate Urhoghide’s arrival to the team ahead of the start of action this weekend in the second-tier division.

Wednesday said they are excited to have bolstered their defensive ranks with the signing of the Nigerian youngster, who earned a contract with the club after impressing during trials with their under-23 squad.

Nicknamed ‘The Destroyer’ for his hard-tackling abilities, Urhoghide made the move as a free agent, following his release by AFC Wimbledon after the last campaign, but that has not stopped The Owls from celebrating their acquisition of the 19-year-old, who trained with the Olympic Eagles ahead of their Africa U-23 Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya.

Sheffield’s academy coach, Steven Haslam said: ”We gave Osaze a trial spell with our Development Squad and we’re really pleased with him.

”He’s a physical defender, he’s hungry, has shown excellent potential and wants to learn – all things we want to see at the club.

”He’s been in and around the first team at his former club, he’s done very well with us and trained with the first team on occasion.”
