Victor Osimhen Will Help Napoli To Play Different Formations – Gattuso

SSC Napoli of Italy youngster, Victor Osimhen has received another round of accolades from the Italian Serie A club’s coach, Gennaro Gattuso, as the former AC Milan midfielder believes having the Super Eagles’ lad in his squad this season will help him apply different tactical formations.

Gattuso was beaming with sheer delight after seeing Osimhen hit the ground running at the start of pre-season training with the squad and even notched a goal during his second work out with his new teammates, much to the delight of the Italian ex-international, who is running the rule over the club’s record signing and other players at their training camp in Castel di Sangro. fyrther gathered that the 2006 World Cup-winning Italian former midfielder has preferred a 4-3-3 formation since his appointment as coach of the Naples-based side, but he hinted during a press conference that he could now go for varying options to suit different situations with Osimhen in his team.

He went on to rate Osimhen as a versatile youngster, who can be deployed for a multiple of duties upfront, while also pointing out that the lad can help him to thrive with his speed, eye for goal, ball holding acumen and physicality in the demanding conditions of the Italian Serie A.

The Napoli gaffer went on to enthuse that his team is gradually evolving into a crack side that can eventually put an end to Juventus’ nine-year title winning dominance; but admitted a lot would be expected from Osimhen, who is in line to make his non-competitive debut this Friday, when they take part in a three-team build-up contest featuring Aquila and Castel di Sangro.

Gattuso declared: “Victor Osimhen is a player who allows us to play differently. We can change our style of play with him in the side. He knows how to attack space and has a real physical presence.

“Osimhen is a forward who gives us so many options in attack in terms of our style of play. We can try to play a more direct brand of football because he knows how to attack space, is physically strong, and will certainly help us out.

“Obviously, my staff and I have tactical ideas in our heads. We have quality players and we’ll analyze how the team will line up. We have to make sure we cover all areas of the pitch. You need to be motivated and also strike the right balance. We are a strong team right now.

“We are satisfied with the players we have, we have young people who are among the best in Europe. There are problems of COVID-19. A lot has been lost, and the fans are not allowed to watch matches, but I train and I’m happy. I have ideas for Mertens and Osimhen pairings but let’s see.”
