The president of Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), Engineer Musa Nimrod has expressed strong optimism that the country is on the verge of qualifying for the Africa Games, sequel to sterling performances at the qualifiers in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
Speaking ahead of Nigeria’s battle with the hosts, in their second game of the competition on Monday, Nimrod said he was happy to see the side beat Niger Republic 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-20) on Saturday.
Daniel Nathaniel led The Flying Hawks to their first victory at the 2019 Africa Games Volleyball Qualifiers, as the Nigerian team bounced back from the embers of their disbandment two years ago.
Nimrod commended the players for overcoming Niger, despite the short notice they had before travelling out for the competition, then advised them not to be carried away by their opening victory.
“I congratulate you for beating Niger Republic, this is the first test out of three,” Nimrod said.
Coach of the side, Japhet Nuhu also hailed the players for putting up a top notch performance against Niger Republic, adding that the team will do everything possible to win their remaining matches.
Nuhu declared: “We know what is at stake, the players cannot afford to disappoint the volleyball family and Nigerians.
