Rangers int’l of Enugu head coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu is positive about the chances of his team claiming the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League title after many years in the doldrums.
While reacting to questions by our reporter bothering on the abandoned Week 35 Oriental fixture between Rangers and Enyimba at the Cathedral, which they have now been awarded 3 points and 3 goals by the league body, which also slammed Enyimba a ten million naira (N10m) fine, Ilechukwu said it’s almost a done deal for them with just 3 matches to go.
“Before our game against Enyimba I said we were in contention for the league.
“But as it stands now, we are etching closer and it’s only us that can stop ourselves.
“Although, there are still 3 matches left to go but we are very positive about winning the title”, he said.
Before the Week 35 fixtures, only two points separated Rangers who were at the top from Enyimba and Remo in second and third position respectively.
But with 3 points and 3 goals awarded to Rangers after the debacle, Enyimba seemed to have handed the title to Rangers on a platter of gold.
Rangers maintain their lead on the zenith of the log with 64 points from 35 matches played, while Enyimba, Remo followed in second and third position respectively with 59 points each from the same number of matches played.
Although, Rangers still has a top of the bill away fixture today against Shooting Stars Sport Club of Ibadan, Ilechukwu believes they will navigate the game just like the other games at the beginning of the season.
“We will approach our game against 3SC like every other game we’ve played.
“The players know what is at stake but I don’t think they are under any pressure.
“We will play our normal game and hope for the best”, he concluded.
