Why Onuachu’s Genk return bid failed

Genk may have finally given up their long-drawn pursuit of Paul Onuachu after English club Southampton put up more demands that “made a possible deal impossible”.

According to Het Laatste Nieuws, Onuachu’s return to the Belgian club is now off the table.

The report said additional demands by Southampton made it impossible to get a deal through.

Last season’s league runners-up are desperate for another striker to support Tolu Arokodare, who was bought in January to replace fellow Nigerian Onuachu.

Genk are now shopping for options outside Onuachu before the transfer window shuts.

They have reportedly set their sights on Andi Zeqiri, a 24-year-old Swiss striker of Brighton who last season played on loan at FC Basel.

Onuachu was linked with French Ligue 1 side FC Metz on Deadline Day Friday, but it appears that move also broke down.
