Date:

The Chairman of Abia Comets FC Mr. Boniface Uche has thrown more light to the high number of players that were dropped by the club, saying that such was aimed at re-engineering the team for a better performance next football season.

It could be recalled that Abia Comets who finished 5th in the 2023/2024 NNL season, with an unprecedented record of 12 matches unbeaten, only recently was reported to have dropped 21 players.

According to the Club Chairman, popularly called Bontus by his admirers, the players dropped were mostly those whose contracts have expired, and have decided to seek greener pastures elsewhere, and those who are on loan, that have been returned to their mother club.

Bontus said that the history making Abia Comets team is very much intact, and more quality players will be recruited for a very eventful new football season.

“I want to be quoted anywhere, Abia Comets is not owing any player nor staff. Everyone has been paid as at when due. We didn’t sack any of our staff, unless those whose contracts elapsed with the season. As we prepare for the new season, those of them that their services will be needed, will be recalled”. He finally advised the numerous fans of the club to ignore the mischief makers who are pained of the achievements of the club in the last football season.

Bontus, praised the Governor Alex Otti for his untiring support to the team, and promised that Abia Comets will not disappoint Abians at the end of the new season.
