World Athlete of the Year: Final chance for Nigerians to vote for Tobi Amusan

Nigerians, both at home and abroad will have the final chance to vote for Tobi Amusan as the 2022 World Athlete of the year because the public fan vote ends at midnight on Monday, October 31.

Amusan is the only Nigerian among the 10 women nominees for the award and the fan vote will account for 25 per cent of the final result and thus by voting, Nigerians at home and in the diaspora can play a significant part in determining her fate.

Voting has been ongoing for over two weeks since the nominees were announced by World Athletics.

To cast a vote, Nigerians only need to visit one of World Athletics’ social media platforms – Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube.

A ‘like’ on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube counts as a vote; so too a retweet on Twitter.

Amusan made the shortlist after an outstanding year in which the 25 year old made history as the first Nigerian to win a world title and the first to break a world record.

She won all the titles she competed for in 2022 starting with the African Championships in Mauritius where she successfully defended her title.

She also successfully defended her Nigerian championships title before storming Oregon, USA to make history by breaking Kendra Harisson’s 12.20 world record with a stunning 12.12s performance enroute to winning the world 100m hurdles title.

Amusan also successfully defended the Commonwealth Games ttile she won in 2018 and the Diamond League trophy she won in 2021 in Zurich.
