World Cup 2022: Uruguay will pay for Suarez’s handball – Ghana vow

Date:

Ghana Football Association (GFA) has vowed that it is revenge time against Uruguay as both nations were drawn in the same group in the 2022 World Cup in Ghana.

Kurt Okraku, President of the association, said his country would be eyeing revenge against Luis Suarez and his country.

Ghana and Uruguay found themselves in Group H alongside Portugal and South Korea in Friday’s draw.

The last time Ghana and Uruguay met in the World Cup was in the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

With some seconds to the final whistle, and the match tied at 1-1 in extra-time, Ghana were awarded a penalty after Suarez stopped a goal-bound header with his hands and was sent off.

Black Stars’ star man, Asamoah Gyan could not score the penalty and Uruguay went on to win via penalty shootout.

“We believe that it will be revenge time.

“We thought we had clearly won that particular game but for that save from Suarez. It is very interesting for us to pitch against them again, obviously with fond memories [this time].

“It is important that we all set the record straight,” Okraku told BBC Sport Africa.
