World Cup: Man City defender, Akanji reveals how Switzerland can stop Cristiano Ronaldo

Date:

Switzerland defender, Manuel Akanji, has revealed how his team can stop Portugal captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, when both sides clash in the World Cup round of 16 on Tuesday evening.

According to Akanji, one of the ways to stop Ronaldo is not to give the Portugal forward any space in the penalty area.

The Manchester City star also admitted that Ronaldo still poses a huge threat to Switzerland despite his age.

Discussing how his team will try to stop Ronaldo, Akanji said at his post-match press conference (via Goal): “Even though he is older now, he is an incredible goal machine.

“You can’t give him any space in the penalty area.

“When he gets to the ball, the ball is usually inside. You have to be very close to him,” he said.
