English Premier League champions Liverpool are reportedly back in pursuit of Nigerian international striker Victor Osimhen, with new manager Arne Slot eyeing reinforcements for his forward line ahead of next season.
The Reds have dominated the league throughout the campaign, maintaining their place at the summit since early November. With a refreshed squad under Slot’s guidance, Liverpool are expected to make significant moves in the transfer market this summer to solidify their status.
A key target could be Osimhen, whose future is set to be a major topic of discussion in the coming months. Strengthening the attack is believed to be a top priority for the Dutch tactician.
TalkSPORT claimed that Liverpool will attack the market in the summer transfer window as they bid to retain their Premier League title – with Osimhen being lined up as a potential target, having been called the ‘world’s best striker’ by Nigerian coach Daniel Ogunmodede.
The Reds are expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer with Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez expected to be sold so that the Anfield giants could ‘splash the cash’ on a striker in the coming months.
Goals have been hard to come by for Liverpool’s strikers, with wide forward Mohamed Salah taking on that burden with 33 strikes to his name this season, and that could see Osimhen arrive, with the report stating that he is a contender to lead the line at Anfield from next season onwards, potentially eclipsing supposedly top target Alexander Isak.
Osimhen scored 26 goals in 32 games for Napoli in their Scudetto win back in 2022/23, and although he was loaned out of the Serie A club to Galatasaray at the start of the campaign, he’s been bang in form in Turkey with 33 goals in 37 games throughout all competitions.
