WWC: We are determined to do well says Onome

Super Falcons Captain Onome Ebi says the team is in good spirit in camp and putting every effort in training aimed at performing well at this year’s world cup.

Onome who led the team for a tete-a-tete with NFF officials before the team left for Australia expressed delight at the commitment of the players in camp they are ‘prepared and good to go’

Forty year old Onome who is a history maker in the team heading to the world cup for the sixth time however denied viral reports that the team is considering a boycott over refusal of the Glass House to pay match bonus.

She and the team according to her are focused on training and getting set for the project at hand. “we are preparing and we are ready, I don’t know where that is coming from” She said.

Some fans who reacted to the report however insist that there is no smoke without fire but urged the team to do all that can to better their lot at the World Cup.

Meanwhile the number of players in the Gold Coast camp has swelled to 22 with the arrival of CSKA Moscow star Francisca Ordega from Russia. The last man being awaited is Rosengard midfielder Halimatu Ayinde from Sweden

while the team will be chasing history in Australia and New Zealand, Onome will equally be chasing her own history.
At the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France, she became the first African player, man or woman, to appear at five World Cups.
After debuting at the 2003 tournament in the United States aged 20, she has become a mainstay of the Nigerian defence through the 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019 events with this year’s tournament sealing the half dozen mark for her.
