It was a carnival like atmosphere at the at the Yucateco Headquarters in Ikorodu, as Yucateco Boxing promotions rounded up activities for the year 2024 with Week-18 hostilities of the Yucateco Boxing League. With over 10 thousand boxing fans and spectators in attendance, the event brought about the best blend of entertainment and sports with live musical performances at interval.
On the night, Action in the squared ropes sports featured 28 competitive bouts in various categories including two Pan African Championship contests which witnessed great performances from the respective pulgelist. The first Pan African Championship bout of the night was a 57kg contest between Ramadan Abodunrin and Habeeb Ajishola. Both boxers displayed great skill in all five rounds before Ajibola got the nod of the referees for a split decision win. The other Pan African Championship bout was keenly contested but Micheal Ogunremi showed grit and determination to record victory over Quam Musefiu in the 57kg Brawl.
Expressing satisfaction with the progress made thus far, founder of the amateur boxing league and President, Boxing Promoters Association of Nigeria, Omonlie Yakubu Imadu pledged more projects in setting the pace for the growth of the sport.
” 2024 was truly an eventful year for the promotion, aside the boxing league we also staged the Yucateco Pan-African boxing championships in Togo, Benin Republic, as well as in Nigeria in the out gone year, the outfit a host its maiden boxing award in Lagos to honor those who have contributed to the growth and development of the sports in our nation over the years; it was truly a great year i must tell you”.
The Yucateco Boss futher outlined the promotions activities in 2025 with a maiden WBC Amateur boxing championship leading the pack.
” In February Yucateco will be hosting the first ever World Boxing Council (WBC) amateur boxing championship in Africa, the event will be staged in Lagos, we also have the second edition of the annual Yucateco Boxing Award scheduled for April, as well as other grassroots developmental programs lined us for 2025”.
The Yucateco Boxing League season 2 will climax with the grand finale at the end of this month. Twelve (12) accredited boxing clubs are competing for the grand prize of 50 million naira. The most valuable boxer in each weight category will also receive the sum of 2 million naira each.
