2022 World Cup: Messi reveals what Diego Maradona did for Argentina in Qatar

Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, has paid tribute to the late Diego Maradona after his side’s 2022 FIFA World Cup triumph last weekend.

Messi said Maradona encouraged Argentina from heaven during the World Cup tournament in Qatar.

The 35-year-old, who scored a brace as Argentina defeated France on penalties shoot-out following a 3-3 draw after 120 minutes, also penned an emotional message for his fans.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward spoke about his journey to finally becoming a world champion, among others.

In a lengthy message via his Instagram account on Tuesday, Messi posted alongside a video showing his incredible journey: ”

“From Grandoli to the Qatar World Cup took almost 30 years. I always had a dream of being a World Champion and I didn’t want to stop trying, even knowing that maybe I would never give up.

“And we deserved it even in that damn ending. It’s also from Diego who encouraged us from heaven.”
